I say “introducing” but anyone who’s been following me for any amount of time has probably already seen this. Early on in the pandemic I decided to create a WordPress theme based on the classic MySpace design. Since then, I’ve been toying around with it here and there in my spare time.
Earlier this week, I got an email politely asking me if I was ever going to release the theme. I had always intended to, but you know how these things go; work piles up and side projects get put on the back burner. Fortunately, I had some extra time this week and was able to put the finishing touches on the theme and get it ready for release!
YourSpace is a “Classic” WordPress theme. That means it relies on PHP for templating and does not have a theme.json file or any editor styles. Both the classic editor and the block editor work, but there is no extended support for blocks.
That being said, the theme was made to be flexible. Out of the box, it’s pretty bare-bones:
Using the Customizer, you can make all sorts of changes and customizations to the theme. You can edit all of the colors, add a custom background, and customize the profile, extended network, and blurbs sections to your heart’s content.
Here’s a video going over all of the options available in the Customizer:
I built this with the MySpace designers of old in mind, and I think where this theme shines is when you use it as a base and go wild with custom CSS. I’m really really excited to see what people do with it!

I set up a live demo of YourSpace with a bunch of dummy data. If you want to see the theme in action before you download it, this is the place to do it.
Download YourSpace
There are two different ways to download YourSpace:
The first option gives you a .zip file you can install directly into your WordPress dashboard. And, if you download the theme from my Ko-fi, you have the option to leave me a tip for my work. Tips are totally optional but greatly appreciated.
If you download the source code from Github you get the source SCSS files and un-minified JS. If you want to do some heavy code customization to the theme, this might be a good option.
However you choose to download it, I really hope you enjoy it. And if you build something awesome with it, please send me the link or leave a comment and let me know. I can’t think of anything cooler than seeing this out in the wild. 💛
