I love working with small organizations and non-profits, especially ones that are local, so when the Vassalboro Public Library contacted me in late 2022 to refresh their website, I was so exicted.
Their old website was a run-of-the-mill Blogger site that wasn’t mobile-friendly, looked dated, and didn’t represent the library well. When Brian, their director, and I connected it was clear that the goal was to modernize their web presence while still keeping it warm and inviting. When designing the website I wanted to focus on making sure it was clean, easy-to-navigate, accessible, and looked great across a wide range of devices.
But it was also important that the client was able to easily update it themselves. To that end, this was one of the first websites I made that really utilizes the WordPress Block Editor to its fullest. A combination of custom styles, custom blocks, and patterns make it easy for the library’s small team to manage content on their own. A built-in event calendar makes it easy for them to add upcoming events and programs. And clear calls-to-action and navigation make it easy for visitors to find what they’re looking for.
