Rolling Embers is a new cannabis dispensary in New Buffalo, Michigan, that has a unique Consumption Lounge on premises. Over the last year or so, I’ve had the privilege of watching their brand develop, and I was so excited when it was time to put together their website. Especially since this was one of the rare projects where I had near total creative control.
I wanted to play on the warmth of their logo, while sticking with a very cool, old-time speakeasy vibe. I was inspired by textures from older times, and wanted to incorporate smoke and gilded elements to give the entire website a premium, luxury feel, while not feeling overly stuffy or unapproachable. The resulting website is full of texture and subtle details that draw the eye and showcase their cannabis and unique smoking experience.
The fun part of this project actually lies in the editing experience. It’s built entirely on the WordPress block editor. Which means that the editing experience is visual, easy for the client, and in-line with modern WordPress standards, so it should last them years. Utilizing custom ACF blocks, block patterns, and a highly-curated theme.json ensures that the client can build out pages on their own and still keep everything on-brand.
And the client is thrilled. In their own words:
It is one of the coolest I’ve ever seen. You guys did an amazing job, and I just wanted to say THANK YOU!
