I am so excited to announce my latest service – self-serve web hosting!
Why did I jump into the hosting game? Simple. I want it to be as easy as possible for my clients to get online. And managing hosting/domain registration is always a pain. Often, getting a website online involves chasing down three different logins for multiple services; a domain registered in one place, a hosting account in another. Throw in email and SSL, and launching a website becomes a stressful experience for both the client and developer (me!)
There had to be a better way to manage website launches. And offering hosting seemed like the best answer.
Offering Web Hosting Means Stress-Free Launches
I offer what I call “self-serve” web hosting. Which means the client has to put in just a smidge of work. But it will pay off, don’t worry.
All you (the client) have to do is sign up. I’ll even recommend a package for you based on your needs, so you don’t have to worry about selecting the right one.
You can register your domain name, purchase hosting, and make a secure payment all in one step on one website. Once you’ve signed up, you’ll have to verify your email address and contact info, then you’re done!
And that’s it. That’s the whole process. Once you’re done, you’re done. No sending me passwords or payment information, or searching for services. Once you’ve signed up and paid, the server automatically provisions your account, and I have everything I need to launch your website. Boom.
It really is that simple. You sign up, I launch your website. Quick, easy, and stress-free.
Of course, I’m sure there are questions. So I’ve included a mini-FAQ here to address some of the most important details about my new web hosting services.
How much does it cost?
Cost is determined by the services you choose to purchase. Hosting packages start at $3.00/month, up to $12.00 monthly. However, if you subscribe annually, you receive a discount.
Domain names start at $12.00 per year for a .com. Right now I’m only offering a handful of TLD’s for registration, but I hope to expand into some of the more “fun” TLD’s in the near future. ?
What if I have my web hosting somewhere else?
No worries – I’d be happy to help transfer you over to my server. If you want to keep your current host, that’s fine too! Clients are under no obligation to host their websites with me, and in some cases I might actually recommend a different host depending on your website goals and needs. For example, small stores are fine, but my hosting services may not be the best for large-scale ecommerce websites (like Seeds ‘n Such or BVS).
Do I have to be a client to sign up?
Nope! Since it’s self-serve web hosting, anyone can sign up. While technically yes, I will have access to your cPanel, unless you’re a client that access will only be for support and maintenance purposes.
I wanted the hosting to be affordable for both businesses and DIY bloggers alike. If you’d like to be hosted with me, you can sign up and go crazy – build the DIY website of your dreams. I’ll always be here for help if you need it.
Who owns my domain name and website if I host with you?
You do. Your domain name is registered to you, and your website is 100% completely yours. If you are a client, I reserve the right to display your website in my portfolio (all standard contract stuff). Otherwise, your domain, your files and your content are completely your own.
Are there any kinds of websites you won’t allow on your hosting?
Hell yes. Here’s a quick rundown of the rules:
- For the safety of all of my clients, your account will automatically be terminated if it’s found to be distributing malware/adware/any sort of malicious code.
- You aren’t allowed to use my hosting services to distribute any kind of adult entertainment/pornography.
- No hateful websites will be allowed. Homophobia, transphobia, racism, sexism, and the like have no place here.
